Lyn Mann is a well known Southern California quilt designer and instructor.
It all began in the early 80's when Lyn took dozens of quilting
classes. After she had mastered a variety of techniques she began experimenting
with her own designs and then the local quilt shops began asking her to
teach. She discovered she really enjoyed the
one-on-one teaching approach and over the years has taught thousands of
quilt students.
Ever active in the local quilting community, Lyn was a past president of the
Flying Geese Quilt Guild and belongs to Beach Cities, North Cities and
Orange County quilt guilds. She is also a member of both Northern and Southern California quilt
councils. Her quilt "Star Studded" is shown in the book
Simply Stars by Alex Anderson and was chosen by the publisher as one of
4 to be pictured on note cards published by Foxhill Workshops. Her
quilt "Ode To A Christmas Tree" was one of the 18 chosen to
appear in that Patchwork Place's Class Act Quilts. Traditional Quiltworks
featured two of Lyn's quilts on the cover as well as inside.
In 1998, Lyn was the featured artist for the Christmas
exhibit at the LA Corner Quilt Museum in LA Corner Washington
Over the years her quilts have been featured in
numerous books and magazines. Quilter's Newsletter has featured
her "Slick Trick" article twice a year and they say it is one
of their most popular features.
A Simply Quilts film crew visited Lyn's house and filmed a class on
"No Such Thing As An Ugly Fabric" and it aired on January 2002
#743. The response to his one program was overwhelming.
Besides teaching throughout the western U.S., Lyn has taught at
"Road To California", "Quilt Utah", "Tahoe
Paradise", "Camp Watch-A-Patcher
and "Quilting In The Pines" quilt conferences. Lyn
has also taught on a quilting cruise from the Canary Island to Barbados
and in 2004 will be teaching on a cruise to Ensenada sponsored by Leah's
Fabric Gallery.
She is willing to travel almost anywhere to share her
ideas and techniques. She believes quilting is a wonderful way to
express one's creativity and enjoys infecting her students with the
quilting bug and seeing her students find meaning and satisfaction in
it. Through her classes she instills confidence and inspiration so
they may reach beyond anything they have done before.
Locally, Lyn is know for her original designed Mystery Quilts.
These are often found as popular features in guild newsletters.
The overwhelming response to the schedule cruise by Leah's Fabric Gallery
in April 2004 where Lyn will be teaching a Mystery Quilt has resulted in
a second cruise being considered.
In addition to
a rigorous teaching schedule she is currently working or writing her
first book on Borders. She hopes to be able to announce a
publication date within a few months.
